hello

i know this might sound stupid but i am in nano and would like to exit it

but i can't find the way to do that

at the bottom it's written file name to write : /etc/rc

 

i mpade the changes i needed , did : ctrl x and save and now what ???

how do i exit nano

If you ctr-x you should be out of nano and in the shell? If you're in the shell you can just close terminal (type exit first if you want).

well i am doing ctrl x after the modification i did and i am still in nano

with on the last line" file name to write: /etc/rc"

 

i do ctrl x and nothing happen

 

please how do i get out and back in the terminal ?

You have to hit enter to confirm the file you want to write. If that is the file you wanted to edit, you just need to hit enter.

its asks you if you wish to save the file

but we don't know what you have done so say no

or if that don't work press ctrl+c then continue to press ctrl x

then n for no

then your back in terminal

the thing is that i need to save the file

i am making these changes to make the nvidia extensions work by editing etc/rc

 

so i do the modification and then ctrl x , it asks me if i want to save the file i say yes and then nothing happen i am still stuck in nano

you have to hit "enter" to confirm the file you want to save. If you're confident with your mods to the file that is all you need to do.

actually i just notice that each time i am opening a file in nao being in single user mode i get the message "could not open the file for writing: read - only file system "what am i doing wrong ??

When you boot into single user there are a couple of commands you need to execute. OS X actually tells you what they are when the boot sequence finishes (it'll be the last bit of info above the prompt). It's fsck -fy (or something like that) and mount -uw (or, again, something like that). Don't use those commands excatly, just see what OS X says.

then try nano

i am booting , hiting F8 , typing -s

 

then after localhost:/root

 

i am typing nano ......

would it be better to boot in safe mode and then enter the terminal ?

type -s -x -F

when finishes type mount -uw /

then cd /etc

nano rc

edit you document

then press ctrl x

press y

then enter

you should be done.

when i type cd/etc

 

it writes -sh: cd/etc: no such file or directory

do you have any idea why my sound only comes out from 1 speaker the left one

do i need to modify the ac97.kext extension ??
