HP DV6871US WITH DUAL BOOTING VISTA/OSX

Using "iPC OSx86 Leopard 10.5.6"

First I would like to thank all the community members for your help, The iPC Team (~pcwiz, Hara Taiki, pyrates), mercurysquad and the Voodoo Team, netkas, modbin, StageXNU team, zef and the Chameleon team, BuildSmart, MacLovin, Bronya, JaS, Gotoh, aquamac, DuNE, MeDevil, Taruga, stickpin, cyclonefr, DaemonES, iNoob, javalui, Chun Nan, Superhai, fassl, mackerintel, AnV, mac.nub, Steven Lin, inside, delish, lastExile, ToH, eno, Oxtie, and everybody else I haven't mentioned! With out you guys I wouldn't have had the opportunity to do this to my HP laptop. Great work guys! and now for the info....

WORKS:

- Nvidia 8400M 256MB DDR3 RAM (Flawless QE/Rotation Includes HDMI and VGA ports!)

- Realtek ALC268 (Mute button on laptop refuses to work, but other than that flawless!)

- Laptop cards in Express Card slot (Works, but I need to boot the system with a card in it for it to detect them being pushed in or out of the slot.)

- 1180:0822 - R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter works

- Battery displays correct information.

- Sleep works... Wake up won't....

- USB 1.0/2.0 Fully Supported!

- FireWire Works!! (Delete AppleHPET.kext)

DOES NOT WORK:

- Intel PRO Wireless 4965AGN Mini-PCI Card (iwi4965 drivers not completed yet. Waiting.. Driver Progress is here... http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=84072 )

UPDATE: Used BIOS white list hack and got a Dell Truemobile 1390. (Works without drivers!)

- HP Webcam (Shows black image when trying to use it, but it does work with flash applications.)

NOT TESTED YET:

- Expansion Port 3 (Can't test it... nothing to test it with...)

STEPS TO GET IT UP AND RUNNING:

(FIRST MAKE SURE VISTA IS ALREADY INSTALLED USING THE OEM INSTALLATION! MAKE SURE YOU CREATE YOUR RECOVERY DVDS SO YOU DON'T LOSE THEM!! FOR MORE INFORMATION ON CREATING SYSTEM RECOVERY DVDs CLICK THIS LINK --> http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...ocname=bph08097 )

1. Go to the start menu in vista and type in "Computer Management" (without the quotes) and hit enter.

2. Once it's loaded click Storage -> Disc Management and wait til it loads...

3. When it's fully loaded right click your recovery partition and choose delete.

4. Now what you want to do is right click the (C:) volume and click shrink. (what this does is make more space to add another partition and OS X recommends anything over 8GB of storage.)

5. Right click the empty space and create a partition.

5. Then stick in the iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Install DVD in the drive and reboot.

6. Press enter when you see the count down so you can boot the DVD.

7. Once the DVD is fully booted all you need to do is select the keyboard fix and whatever software you would like to install and then just keep clicking next.

8. Now when it's all done all you have to do is fill everything out to get to the desktop and once there you will need to connect to the internet using your eithernet card.

9. You will then download this package here ---> (((LINK COMING SOON))) and install all the drivers and with kext you use "Kext Helper" to install those.

10. and now your done!!

To get this working you will need the iPC OSx86 Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD. The option to select are PS/2 Keyboard Fix. Then once everything is installed you will need the drivers and Chameleon bootloader. (Which I will post here in a bit.) Then that's it! You have it installed!

I will keep updating this topic

NOW WITH VIDEO SHOWING THAT IT WORKS!

Next plan is to make a custom HP DV6000 series OS 10.5.6 DVD Installer.....

Hi IntelMacGuy,

I can see we have almost the same hardware and almost everything working!!! I'd like to exchange some experiences with you in order to improve our systems...

I'm using the boot-132 method with Vanilla install and not yet tried the 10.5.6 update cause I know I'm going to have keyboard/trackpad issues... so I'm looking for solutions before updating.

Could you tell me more about somethings you use? i.e:

  • NVdarwin driver for NVidia, where did you get this?
  • Does the Realtek ALC268 mic jack works without the withe noise in the background?
  • How did you get the SD card reader working?

If you take a loo into my sig you're going to find how to make the note sleep and wake well as other cool stuff, as SpeedStep...

Hope we can help each other! TIA,

M.

Yes hello i would also like some more information regarding what you used to build the install. I have a DV6375US and am currently getting a copy of iPC as we speak. Would boot-132 be the best bootloader or could i use XP's if Dual-Booting? I apologize if there is the noobishness in the question as i've only been researching this for a couple of days and would really like to take a crack at it. Thanks.

1. NVDarwin: With the iPC installer there's an option on the DVD for NVDarwin 256MB

2. ALC268: I will add the driver here on the first post in this topic in a bit. (Don't know about the mic.. I use it in Skype and no body has said anything yet.)

3. SD Card driver: same as number 2 will add to first topic.

Thank you for the sleep help. I will try that and post my progress.

What you should try is install XP first and then install iPC's DVD. You should be able to use the chameleon boot loader on the install disk without problems. Let me know what's up?
