arsix
Hello, I currently have my retail copy installed on a P35 DS3L mobo (chameleon, video efi strings), and have 3 internal HDD's, one is a raptor and i have two 1 TB each. What I have done previosly is have leopard on the raptor, use one of the TB drives as my user folder, and the other TB for vista. I dont plan on running vista on it anymore, and i would like to use Disk Utility and set up a striped RAID betwen the 2 TB. It makes sense to me that leopard will just load up fine (since it will still be loading from one drive only), and then be able to see the software RAID on my TBs and use it well. I know there are extra steps to take when setting up RAID on your boot partition, so my questions is, do i still need to do anything other than disk utility for my TBs drives so that theyll have the user folder in it? thank you BTW, leopard rocks! dubhead
Doesnt work like that ....Raid HDs and a system to boot require some extra work to be done before it can be used. check this thread on How to setup Raid:http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=76404 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/145281-raid-set-up-questions/#findComment-1030964 Share on other sites
arsix
yeah, i did see that thread, however that applies when wanting to install leopard in a boot volume and having that boot volume be RAID, in other words splitting your Leopard install amongst two drives. Im not trying to have that set up, Im planning on keeping my leopard install all in one drive only (so that it boots from that drive), and then what i wanna do is have ONLY my user folder (home folder) with all my files on a separate RAID partition, this way i have leopard in 1 drive, and my user folder in 2 different hard drives that were previously raided together, in striped form. This way I THINK there should be no problem for leopard booting up, since its only in one HDD, and it will be able to see my home folders on the other drives. But maybe im just thinking different.... Anyway, thanks for the prompt reply! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/145281-raid-set-up-questions/#findComment-1030993 Share on other sites
gawkersucks
To change the location of your Home folder. Go to your user account - right click and click advanced options. There is a section to change your home folder hit OK and I believe you should be good to go. kytzu
If you don't care about the data on those 2 disks, just open disk utility, format them as GPT and drag/drop them to stripped Raid and that should be all. Myself I managed to boot from stripped raid using the tutorial above, I have almost same mobo as you.
