Just thinking this Hard drive will (eventully) be dual booting W2K and OSx but i have another 40GB drive that OSx can "have" (my bios program lets me choose the booting HDD or Optical, whatever) which i think would be better! So what do you think (this question sometimes gete me into trouble!)

Thanks for help / sarcasm etc!

Hmm been told that pressing the F8 key at starup would invoke a menu with the diag -v option but cannot get that to work? is F8 the correct key? i think i am using Darwin 8.01 (but came with the 10.4.5 iso cant find the .img file on the iso to try another method of installing!

Yes, F8 is the correct key.... try the -x option if you ever get to that screen, this is kinda the "safe mode" although in your case i doubt it will help much.

No clue whats going wrong, but its most likely some unsuported hardware. Some people who have had kernel panics after a clean install have had success by going into the terminal (from the install cd) and removing some kext folders from /System/Library/Extensions

Try to see whats getting loaded right before the crash, and disable that kext folder by moving it out of your extensions directory.

example

sudo -s

cd /Volumes/OSX/System/Library/

mkdir Extensions.Backup

cd Extensions

mv broken.extension.kext ../Extensions.Backup

kextcache -k ./

reboot

The kextcache simply rebuilds the driver cache of all the drivers taht gets loaded when you boot up.

I know none of this is specific info, but i haven't been able to figure out exactly where your system is crashing based on the screenshots provided.

Also, try writing down every single piece of hardware in your box, then one by one look through the forums to see if its supported, or if there are any specific workarounds to get it working. Simple stuff like having a bad nic card can cause you a kernel panic on bootup after a clean install.

Hope this helps,

Good luck,

Dre
