I have a nearly perfect install of iDeneb 10.5.5 on this Acer Travelmate 2420 - nearly perfect, because hibernate (or any type of sleep) does not work. I have tried setting hibernatemode various settings (3 and 7):

$ pmset -g

Active Profiles:

Battery Power -1

AC Power -1*

Currently in use:

sleep 0

displaysleep 5

powerbutton 1

hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage

hibernatemode 3

disksleep 10

ttyskeepawake 1

I have PC EFI v9 + chameleon 1.0.12. I cannot patch my DSDT (using fassl) :

I have tried to generate dsdt.aml using the -f flag but that has not helped (or hurt).

I need to get hibernation working. Its more important than any updates (any attempts to upgrade to 10.5.6 end in a hosed system anyways for me).

When I choose Sleep (or the Deep Sleep widget or Fn+F4), I get a poweroff with a single clicking sound (the switch off takes maybe 2 seconds). I can confirm that a file /var/vm/sleepimage exists but I doubt that is it is being generate during the hibernate. As far as I can tell, I cannot find any messages about any hibernate attempt in /var/log/system.log.

On powering on after such a "hibernate", I get a Sleep image has garbage error and the boot proceeds as if I had never attempted to hibernate. Since this is a laptop, getting hibernate to work is essential.

Can anyone please help me diagnose the cause of this and hopefully fix it ?

I would like to add that this laptop previously ran Linux and had absolutely no issues hibernating. So, there is no limitation on the hardware side.
