AFTER A WILE I FOUND THIS:

the problem is the IOUSBFamily.kext depens of the kext version I use with:

10.5.5 I can Sleep but when I plug the external HD I have problems

10.5.6 I have working the external HD but can't sleep

I just found this:

when I update to IOUSBFamily.kext 10.5.5 Sleep Works but external USB drive don't

when I update to IOUSBFamily.kext 10.5.6 Sleep Doesn't Works but external is working now

I have a P5k Deluxe Wifi and I couldn't get sleep to work with 10.5.6 until I installed the EHCI Sleep enabler from here - http://www.superhai.com/files/leopard/release/. Make sure to read the readme and do what it says. Now sleep works, but it won't sleep on its own. If I tell it to go to sleep, however, it does and then it turns back on with the power button (can't get to turn on with keyboard activity from my USB keyboard).
