tacoofabudda
First off, sorry if this has just been asked but the search gave me like 3 year old listings. Anyway I want a portable(caring to classes) cheap laptop with a DVD drive, wireless, decent battery, works OOB and I can update through software update(or Hack to make so I don't always have to download updates manually) I'm willing to go up to about $850 if it's really perfect. (Eg something(not discontinued and a little smaller) like this would be great http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...rica-_-34115473 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/143243-cheap-os-x-x86-laptop-less-than-500/ Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
Here is a complete list of working laptops. Well not quite complete but it helps: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...0.5.2/Portables If you are in USA try to get a Dell - many work very well with OS X. Try to get yourself a Dell XPS M1530 - I see it is $949 but it works perfectly. The specs are damn good on the cheapest one. There are many other laptops that work, Inspiron whatever, and lots of other brands. It's difficult to recommend. Thanks but that list is kindof hard to sort through because it has the not working ones too. alienhairdo
What do you mean Dell XPS M1530 "it runs perfectly?" Can I buy a Dell XPS M1530 and load OSX 10.4 and just use it like a mac? Does it need alterations? Special firmware updates? How do you do it? Synaesthesia
You need a hacked version of OS X, or a special Bootloader (boot-132). Then you need to fix the drivers for Graphics, Sound etc. And then it works! So it takes a bit of work, but totally worth it IMO. I recommend iAtkos + Macgirl's thread on Dell Laptops. JaE-V
My dell latitude d820 works perfectly, i mean absolutely everything too lol. The xps 1330, 1530's, studio, and i1318's are great too. I went with the d820 because i wanted a small screen that does 1920x1200 resolution.
