Hooplah
Before I start, here is my hardware information: Motherboard: Asus P5QL Processor: Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo 3.00GHz Graphics Card: Asus 8500GT Hard Drive: Seagate 100GB IDE Now, without the arguments "cpus=1", my computer automatically restarts several seconds after loading the DVD. Now, I've tried just about everything to get the installer working, but nothing helps. I've tried switching my Hard Drive to Slave, tried switching my DVD drive to Slave, didn't work. Currently I'm running my Hard Drive as Master and my CD/DVD drive is Slave. But, I continue to not be able to get into the installer. Now, by the time next Friday comes around I'll have approximately 200$, so I will be able to purchase a new hard drive. probably a SATA hard drive. I'm just wondering, is this a wise decision? Or is there a way to solve this problem. By the way, I'm using IAtkos, if that matters. JRDELUNAIII
If you have an external USB DVD Player, you can try installing with that. Sometimes that actually helps. Hope this helps. Beerkex'd
Currently I'm running my Hard Drive as Master and my CD/DVD drive is Slave. But, I continue to not be able to get into the installer. If that means both your HDD and DVD drive are PATA devices, forget it. Your install DVD doesn't know about the Marvell 88SE6102 PATA controller on the P5QL. I don't know if there's a way to fix your install DVD or if a driver for the 6102 even exists. Look around. Maybe this works or can be modified to work: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...c=71812&hl= The easiest way would be to use SATA HDD and DVD. Hooplah
I do not have an external DVD drive. But I've found out that on P5QL-Pro models, a certain bios patch is required. I just don't know how to use a .ROM file. Any suggestions? By the way, the P5QL (the model I have) and P5QL pro are actually very, very alike. If I were to use the patch on my motherboard, would I risk causing any damage? Or would the bios 'hack'/update fix my problem. EDIT: So, if I buy a new hard drive and CD/DVD drive, it will definitely work? No question about it? Beerkex'd
1. Grab your motherboard manual and read up on Asus EZ-Flash. It's in the BIOS section. If you don't have a manual, download a pdf copy from ASUS' website. 2. Never, ever flash your BIOS with a BIOS from a different motherboard, no matter how much they have in common! 3. P5QL has ICH10, so SATA drives should be recognized and useable by the installer. I can't say anything about what will happen after that.. If so, then can you please answer the following question: If I purchase both a SATA based DVD drive and a SATA based Hard Drive, will I have any issues with the installer? Or will it run the installer. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/143116-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-1015968 Share on other sites
Beerkex'd
I don't know what else to say so I'll just repeat myself. Maybe wording it differently will help. Read the BIOS section in your motherboard manual. (This is the 'suggestion' you asked for because you have no idea what to do with .ROM files. I am trying to tell you where you can find the information you need so that you can educate yourself. Motherboard manual is a good start!!) If you're going to upgrade your BIOS, only use a BIOS that was specifically written/patched explicitly for your exact motherboard model. Or you could end up with a dead board. ICH10 works and is recognized as generic SATA controller. So unless something is wrong with the distro you're using it should work. But I can't guarantee anything. ICH10 must be set to AHCI mode in the BIOS.
