bptba93
I just installed a new motherboard and processor in my computer. MB- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813131324 CPU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819103249 My 8800GT was working with my old board and CPU. But my old CPU only took 65watts while this Phenom takes 125 watts. When I put my 8800GT in, when the screen comes up I get random numbers all over. Then a bunch of lines across the screen when it gets to windows.(You can still kinda see the desktop). My power supply is a 430 watt PSU with 20 Amps on the 12 volt rail. I used the same one with my last setup. Am I not getting enough power to my 8800GT anymore because of my new CPU? This is really beginning to worry me. I've looked around for some new PSU's and I came across this one.... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...;Sku=ULT-LSP650 Would this be sufficient for my system, if the PSU is the problem? The only other things I have plugged in are 4 fans, a hard drive, and a DVD burner. Thanks for your time. EDIT: I forgot to mention the 8800GT power is connected to a 2x 4 pin Molex connector to 6 pin adapter. macoff
Hi, you need, not least of 26 Amps on the 12 volt rail for 8800GT. Saludos MacOff Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/143105-8800gt-power-issue/#findComment-1015453 Share on other sites
bptba93
So then the PSU I linked from Tigerdirect will work? Also, are you sure that it's not a video card issue? macoff
Yes, that PSU must be perfect... 38A in 12 volt rail and 650w... MacOff Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/143105-8800gt-power-issue/#findComment-1015458 Share on other sites
bptba93
Also, the weird lines and numbers is caused by lower power than needed? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/143105-8800gt-power-issue/#findComment-1015460 Share on other sites
macoff
if possible ... could put a picture of the lines? MacOff Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/143105-8800gt-power-issue/#findComment-1015463 Share on other sites

bptba93
Well, I just put it in another system and got the same results as the pictures posted. Seems for some reason the 8800GT which is like 2-3 months old, has gone out. Can newegg still RMA it? macoff
It seems to be a bad power supply, you must buy the PSU, the Phenom consumes 125w and the 8800GT around 110W and 26amp ... bptba93
Well I put the 8800GT back into my old system MB and CPU with just the video card plugged in, no hard drive or anything, and it's doing the same thing. This is on a 450W power supply, with like 18-20 amps on the +12v.
