laszen03
Okay, here is the scoop, I have a HP DV1000 laptop, 1.6 ghz 512 RAM, 100gb hard drive. I have installed the MYZAR iso that is patched with 10.4.5 however i did not install the update. Therefore, I am currently running 10.4.4. The reason i didnt install it was because i had read that 10.4.5 had some new bugs, and that even thought it was an upgrade, it wasnt necessarily better. Be that as it may, I have the 100gb HD partitioned 50/50 OsX86/XP Home, I used the CHAIN0 method, and can boot like a champ! Im please to announce that everything works great except the wireless, and screen res. My question here is on the wireless. I have read the posts on my internal(centrino intel 2200) wireless setup and there is no current working solution for that. When one is avail. I will be among the first to try it, but for now, I NEED MY INTERNET! Im at work right now, i get out @8:00, im stopping at bestbuy on the way home, to use up some reward zone certificates i have, and am buying a wireless adapter. Like the title says, there are a few models i see, but i guess the best solution looks like the WG511T PCMCIA by netgear. I would really like to get a USB adapter but it looks like none are compatible. Once agian, which adapter should I buy? Im open to pretty much anything, low prices are good as it is only a matter of time b4 my internal card works. We use WEP on out network so that is also something i need. There is also a Belkin model I see, the 7010, however, only the 7000 model is listed in the WIKI. Are they basically the same? Will it work? Its super cheap compared to the rest and says its compatible with both MAC and PC. Like i said, I SO WANT IT TONIGHT so any help i can get, im getting something tonight, bestbuy it is, and it has to be a model on their website. I realize im not giveing you all a lot of info, but agian, i would really appreciate any help anyone has! Thanks agian in advance, i really appreciate all the help this entire forum has been. P.S. If you have any dual boot questions, i might be able to help, i think i just about every problem you can think of! If you have any dual boot questions, i might be able to help, i think i just about every problem you can think of! Alot of PCMCIA slots dont work in OSX on pc laptops. Some of the USB sticks that people claim work don't really work either for others (perhaps to do with usb problems) your best bet is to find a mini-pci atheros chipset based wifi card, and crack open your laptop and isntall that puppy! Otherwise... i guess try a usb or pcmcia card, but just make sure those buses work first, before you waste your time and money. -Dre Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14308-i-need-internet-will-buy-wireless-card-tonight-help-me-choose/#findComment-91403 Share on other sites

thrunner
Beware that a lot of HPs laptops will only accept HP certified miniPCI cards and will reject any that is not specified in the BIOS. There are only three working wireless chipset: certain Broadcom (original Airport), Ralink (with Ralink driver) and with 10.4.5 the Atheros. With PCMCIA, you will also need a compatible chipset (certain TI chipset). These are all documented in the Wiki. laszen03
yea, i saw the wiki, do you mean chipset in the PCMCIA card itself or in the notebook. There is a great site.. i think its dv1000forums.com or something like that(just do a google) where i just read about the HP hardware being very specific and only accepting certian HP specific products. That being said, Im going PCMCIA or USB. Im thinking the WG511T. Is there any way for me to tell if it will work w/o actually trying it? Otherwise I like the Belkin 7010 for 30 bucks! Anyone?
