Ikahrus
I recently posted about this problem and thought I had it fixed. We'll the solution I found had fixed only half of the problem. Anyway, both 5.5 and 5.6 are causing me do get the hanging blue screen when the desktop loads. I briefly get to see the desktop but once both the menubar and the dock are loaded it all disapeears into a plain blue screen. Sometimes it will even wait a while before it happens, say 10-20 seconds. I know for a fact that it is QE/CI causing the problem as 1) I am able to boot into Safe Mode (-x) without any problems as SM turn's off QE. 2) The problem only occurs when I apply a QE fix for my ATI X1300 (DevID 0x7183). Otherwise I can boot the system fine without the fix or if I remove it. I'd really appreciate some help with this. If you need anything that might help solve the problem (system logs, hardware specs, etc) let me know and I'll provide them. Thanks.
ameris_cyning
Which Natit kext are you using?
Ikahrus
I have tried both NatitX1300 and Natit_Universal, both produce the same problem. The QE fix is ATI_For_QE_CI. [EDIT] Also. These kexts both worked fine, without problems in 5.4 and below.
ameris_cyning
Have you tried Natit_auto and use OSX86tools to force QE?
hecker
I read that this could be caused if the Appledecrypt or dsmos kext(s) is missing.
ameris_cyning
I read that this could be caused if the Appledecrypt or dsmos kext(s) is missing. If that were true, then he would not be able to boot into safe mode. Finder, Dock, LoginWindow are all dependent on DSMOS and other decrypters for them to be able to work. Ikahrus
Have you tried Natit_auto and use OSX86tools to force QE? I haven't yet but I shall try that now. [edit] I just took a look at OSX86Tools but there is option for x1300 in the GFX String Creator. Is there any other way I can get the EFI string? (I've done a search but can't find anything) Sorry to sound like a complete noob with all this but I've never used OSX86Tools, EFI Strings, etc before. I read that this could be caused if the Appledecrypt or dsmos kext(s) is missing. I have tried both (not at the same time) and I still get the same problem. Templeton Peck
EFI Studio is supposed to handle all your EFI-related stuff. I've never used it though (because it didn't exist when I installed Leo).
ameris_cyning
I have never used EFI studio as I never had a reason. I would just continue to use Natit. Did you turn on QE through OSx86tools?
Ikahrus
I have never used EFI studio as I never had a reason. I would just continue to use Natit. Did you turn on QE through OSx86tools? There is no option for my card (x1300) in the GFX String list and I don't know which .plist file to put into the GFX String Creator, I've had a look for information on this but cannot find any. Can someone point me in the right direction? Unless you mean Quartz GL then yes I enabled it but this does not enable QE/CI. I also tried EFIStudio but that is the same. ameris_cyning
Christ, I got QGL and QE mixed up. My mistake, sorry.
Ikahrus
Haha, no problem. But can anyone else help with this? I'm still looking for a guide of some sort to create a plist for osx86tools to allow me to create an efi string if anyone can provide some sources? Ikahrus
Have you tried the NatitX1300r1v1Installer....... Yeah I have tried it. But no luck as I also need to use ATI_For QE_CI to get QE/CI working properly.
shortbus
Hello. I had a similar problem when getting my 9800+ to work. I would boot up and then it would just have a blue screen but the rest of the computer would act as if it booted up all the way. I was about to power the machine off but when I hit the power button the screen came back on. But, the computer went to sleep. (Incidentally this is when I found out hitting the power button makes my computer sleep. Nice, right?) So, I hit my power button again and the computer woke up and I was at the login screen. My problem was NVKush kept loading and I did not figure it out right way. I eventually did and all works well. My point is this: You are probably going to need to find or make or adjust a kext to match your card. For me the solution was using DFE132 boot cd and EFI strings in c.a.Boot.plist. Thanks for this bit of insight, it helps me further understand what is going on. I'm looking into EFI Strings at the moment, but I can't find any available for my X1300 and I can't find any pages/topics/tutorials/etc on how to make my own that I am able to follow. They are either very vague or assume you know most of the stuff that is there already. And since EFI String's are completely new to me I dont know much of what is being said. I'd love for someone to write a tutorial or guide me through the process of making the .plist/XML file needed to get the EFI String, not only would this help me but also help many others. jalabast
Had the same problem when I updated to 10.5.5. I also have an ATI x1300. I have QE/CI but with no resolution change. I did the following: 1) Deleted all ATI Kexts 2) Used 9f23 Installer from NVInstaller.com 3) Deleted all ATI kexts except for ATIRadeonX1000 4) Modified plist of above to match my card 5) Installed Chameleon boot loader 6) Used EFI Studio. Since there is no ATIx1300 card in option, I used ATIX1900 and replace all Alopias to Prionace. Rename X1900 to X1300 and installed in boot loader I wish I have resolution change though.
