Hey guys, I've done a little research on the parts and was wondering if this config would be good,

CPU/Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad, Q6600@2.4 GHz

Motherboard: Asus P5K SE EPU LGA775 Intel P35

RAM: Kingston 2GB 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM 667 PC2 5300

Hard Drive: Western Digital 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0 gb/s

Sound: Onboard Realtek ALC883

Video: MSI nVIDIA GeForce NX8500GT (MTD256EH)

DVD: Sony DVD+/-RW 16x DL

PSU: 500W

Mainly I want to know if the motherboard and the graphics card work well. I know that this mobo needs an audio patch and the line-in doesn't work. I was hoping to use the Asus P5K PRO but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Newegg and Tiger Direct don't have it.

If you need Line-in, then just get an el-cheapo USB sound card at newegg.

May even want to consider an iMic by Griffin with it you can have headphones/line-out, mic/line-in you can get them fairly cheap on Ebay or even NIB is not that expensive.

Oh alright, I was looking at changing the video to a nvidia 8800GT, would it work?

Seems like newegg doesn't have that motherboard, they got the Asus P5E was wondering if that would work.

8800GT works fine for a main board go with something based on a P35 or P45 chipset with a realtek 8111b/c nic 888 or 889a sound for best compatibility.

Thanks for the help, I've been trying to look for the P45 chipset ASUS ones but most of them are open box and don't include accessories.

A lot of people on here including me have had good luck with Gigabyte boards you may want to give them a try.

Your motherboard, did it require a lot of patching and how much did it cost you? I found this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128348 was hoping it was the same one as yours. Can you recommend any good Gigabyte boards? Sorry for all these questions, there are so many patches for some boards I wanna make it right the first time.

That board is the same as mine except the DDR3 from the specifications on Gigabyte's site it has exactly the same chipsets so looks like all you would really need a patch for is the audio to get it working and if wanting Time Machine working then the IONetworkingFamily fix the nics work out of the box for internet access.

Alright sweet. I've decided on the GA-EP45-UD3P, also with the EVGA GeForce 9800 GT. This GeForce isn't on the HCL list, but I'm pretty sure it should work. Not much difference between 9800 GTX and the GT.

I have seen others say it is working it is supposed to be a re-branded 8800GT like Nvidia likes to do with some of the models for some reason.

the HCL list is ancient, you can find a 8800GT/9800GT in the profiles of dozens of regulars on this board :P

they both use the same core, however the 9800GTs offer the option of hybrid power support, and SPDIF audio passthrough to HDMI depending on the card vendor.

hybrid power is useless for hackintosh, but the audio passthrough could be useful for hooking up to a HDTV
