My Dv5 is running Ideneb 10.5.5 and unfortunately my wifi card - intel 5100 - doesn't seem to be supported. What can I buy to replace that card until a fix comes out for it?

Can I just purchase this and switch them out? Would it work OOB? Would I need that Airport udgrade?

Obviously I'm a bit confused, and I keep reading that X card works with Y computer, I just want to know for sure before I make a purchase.

Thanks.

I am seeing a lot of mixed information. Some people saying I will need to edit my BIOS to get a card to work, some saying that I should just buy a usb wifi drive that supports leo and use it instead.

Any conformation would be greatly appreciated

i am looking at doing the same thing. from what i gather u have to modify the bios to get a different wifi card to work, which is {censored} that hp does this. modifying the bios is also very dangerous so i wouldnt suggest it less u really know what you are doing. i am looking for a good usb dongle.

I would just look into buying an external USB card. The one I can recommend that works is the Belkin F5D7050. They work out of the box with the drivers from Belkin (their 10.5.3 driver works for 10.5.2 patched to 10.5.5 for me). I have been in the process of testing a ton of wifi sticks and so far the Belkin is the only line that works hassle free with WPA2. Once I'm done with my testing I'll make a thread about which ones I tested and what works and what doesn't.

Yes, it is Broadcom 4312 that works fine in MacOSX with Apple's Airport driver.
