johnnyb
Hey guys, I am running an ASUS NCCH-DL motherboard, and had it booting to a 200GB Western Digital PATA drive. In xbench, I was getting killed in my performance marks due to bad ATA performance. I had the primary master setup as my boot drive I had the secondary master and slave set up for my DVD writers. I switched out the Western Digital for a new Samsung 250GB SATA-II drive (board says it only supports SATA-I, but its working so I do not have jumper installed on drive to downclock it to SATA-I) I used Acronis TrueImage to clone the WD to Samsung - no issues (just can't grow partition, but can't get past that 137GB limit anyway.... dang it!!) Booted up perfectly fine, but its still showing as an ATA device in System Profiler. XBench shows no performance gains. I deleted the kext cache and rebooted, still no change. I'm assuming that i need to get a kext to support SATA and stop it from using the AppleGenericATA? But how? The Asus NCCH-DL runs on an Intel 875 chipset - in case anyone doesn't know - and its a dual xeon board. It should be one heck of a screamin system if the drive would keep up! Thanks very much in advance! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14144-upgraded-pata-sata-no-improvement/ Share on other sites
johnnyb
Anyone? Have any of you successfully upgraded from PATA to SATA and noticed an improvement?
