Hi -

I just installed OSX on my PC with a GA-P35-DS3L/S3L motherboard using iATKOS v4.1i.

After the initial reboot following install, the load freezes with the following snippet being the last thing seen in the log:

WARNING: sandbox_init error Could not set Mach lookup policy for service com.apple.bsd.dirhelper err=1100Could not set Mach lookup policy for service com.apple.distributed_notifications.2 err=1100Could not set Mach lookup policy for service com.apple.ocspd err=1100Could not set Mach lookup policy for service com.apple.mDNSResponderHelper err=1100Could not set Mach lookup policy for service com.apple.SecurityServer err=1100Could not set Mach lookup policy for service com.apple.SystemConfiguration.configd er

Any idea what is going on? Sounds like its trying to get in touch with some apple servers, but I'm not really sure why this would kill the load.

Thanks,

Jeff

Cool! Thanks for the help. I believe you are correct. I used -x as a bootup option, and it came up. I assume that avoids loading certain drivers, and gives you a basic video driver? It seems to work, though I have no network connection - possibly due to that boot option?

I am using a GeForce 8600 GTS in that machine. Trying to figure out how to get that to work with OSx86 but so far I'm not too sure. Let me know if you have any ideas, or can better explain that -x option to me.

Thanks!

A little bit of Googleing around shows that "-x" is "safe boot". My little research leads me to believe that it loads minimal kexts. This would the include the faulty video card driver and unfortunately your network driver as well.

Which of the nVidia drivers did you select when you installed your system?

Damn, I searched around for -x but couldn't find the description. I assumed it was safeboot, but wasn't sure how it was handling drivers in that mode.

To answer your question - I didn't actually select anything different than the defaults for options. All of the things I read said I was better off not selecting anything. I will probably redo the install, and see what I can find as far as network drivers. But - I'm still at a loss about the video one. I haven't been able to figure out how to obtain and load a newer driver for that. I saw some mention of a script someone had created, but never found the actual download.

Thanks

I have the same board as you. I used Kalyway 10.5.1 and picked the nvidia drivers while installing. It recognized my 7600GT right away. Also, I couldn't get the Vanilla Kernel to work so I installed without it(and it works great without it!). To get the onboard sound to work you will need the Apple HDA patcher with ALC888 and ICH9. But, yeah, try an install with the nvidia drivers. I can't remember if I used the nvidia inject or the other version.

Hope that helps!

Look for efi studio to install your graphics card

you should have network straight away your inbuilt card is supported by osx.

If not look for the realtek driver for it they make one

OK...just looked up EFI Studio. Sounds like a tool to let you build kext files into the kernel (I'm probably using the wrong terminology here, feel free to make fun of me). And kext files basically point the OS to the drivers. So if I find a kext string for my card, do I have to hunt down a driver somewhere, or does that already reside in the OS? Maybe EFI does more for me than I'm thinking, but that's what I understood based on what I just read. I will give it a try - thanks!

As for the LAN issues - is it likely that I am not getting a connection because I booted in 'safe mode' (boot option -x) ? My hope is that once I get the video driver figured out and can boot the OS normally, the LAN will start working. But maybe I'm wrong. BTW - right now it just claims the cable is unplugged.

section_14 - is Apple HDA patcher similar to EFI Studio but for audio drivers? This stuff is pretty confusing to me coming primarily from a windows background. Anyway, I'll look into that after I am able to get into the OS without booting in safe mode...

Thanks all!
