maciekish
Hi, i have tried vmware fusion (latest verison 30 day demo) on three different machines. Whenever i attempt to power on a machine the screen goes gray with the text "you need to restart your computer". Sometimes it doesnt go all the way but only starts drawing the gray overlay and freezes. What should i do? I'm tired of dualbooting to run ONE application.. I use iAktos 10.5.5 with PC_EFI9. Thanks MS Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/140316-vmware-fusion-freezes-my-entire-computer/ Share on other sites

Well Fusion pretty much require VT-x on the CPU so wanted to check that out. Do you have the VT extensions enabled in the BIOS? starchild2012
My atkos 5i 10.5.5 does the exact same thing. As soon as I run it, i get the same multilingual reboot message. Did you fix this at all? I am also using efi9 i believe. Toad S
My computer would crash every time I ran vmware-fusion. I'm running iKATOS V5.1i (Leopard 10.5.5) This is the solution I found: In reading about Voodo Mach Kernel Rev. 1.0 this is what their user documentation says. "VMware (OS X) does not run when running on Voodoo kernel. VMware requires the running kernel to be named /mach_kernel. This is a known bug in VMware. Either install your Voodoo kernel as /mach_kernel (not recommended), or remove /mach_kernel and create a symbolink link in its place (alias) which points to Voodoo kernel (/mach_kernel.voodoo). If you used the automatic installer, this has been done for you. If you installed the kernel manually, refer to the Installing the Kernel section for more details." I installed the Voodoo Rev. 1.0 (Dec. 6th 2008) Auto Install, Vmware-Fusion is now working with no system crashes or problems. To get Voodo Kernel just google it. ones n zeros bit
Confirmed. Thanks for sharing the solution! After the quick download and kernel auto-install, the vm's fired up without a problem. Here's the link to where you can download the Latest Voodoo Kernel Release Package. maciekish
I got around it by using the vanilla kernel, also works well. BartNijland
The bug is that the mach kernel needs to be named mach_kernel. So for example if you use mach_kenrel.vodoo and in your boot.plist you have a key which makes the OS boot with mach_kenrel.vodoo, it won't work.
