Hey there

This is my first post on this forum. And by the way - Thank you all so, so much for a GREAT site! I really appreciate all of your posts in here, as they are really helpful. This is definitely the most informative OS X-site on the internet!

And, btw. - Sorry for my English :)

I have searched and searched for a good guide on how to install OS X from a USB-stick, but I haven't been able to find one single one, that helps me through the hole process. You see, I am into computers, but I'm definitely not an expert. So, I really hoped that someone could either link to a good guide on how to install OS X from an USB-stick, without having a Mac, or describe the whole process in detail for me :).

I know, that this may be irritating to some, that have heard this question before, but I really haven't been able to find any useful guides, honestly :)

Regards

Mathias

Thank you Krrr, but the way I understand that guide, you need to have a Mac to make a bootable USB-stick, which I don't.

Maybe some of you guys could need to know on which machine I am installing OS X on - It is my new Acer Aspire One. As some may know, this machine does not come with a DVD-drive, and this is why I want to install OS X from an USB-stick, as an external DVD-drive is highly priced here in Denmark.

You need to install the Vanilla kernal and edit a .plist file to make the computer run on one cpu because beond 10.5.3 it doesnt like running on two cpus.... you can fallow these steps should help.. i had the same problem when you get to saving the the file you need to press SHIFT then : then W then Q

Currently we are using 9.2 Speedstep Kernel, since I want to use Vanilla Kernel from the original Mac OS, and for this system vanilla kernel will only support 1 cpu ( still trying to look for solution and make use of 2 cpu's) >>>

Type in the following command in Terminal Mode:

Sudo vi /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

System will ask you for your password, you may enter your password

look for "Kernel Flags" and put "cpus=1".

Press i to insert item

Eg.

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>cpus=1</string>

Press Esc

Press shift+:wq

Hey, there is a way to do this. It would be easiest if you have access to two USB drives however. If you only have one USB drive, it must be at least 4 GB. If you have two USB usb drives you can do this:

1. Make on USB Drive (the non OS X install usb drive) a Linux live USB (a new one, you need the latest version of Gparted).

2. Boot off the linux, plug in your other USB drive, format it HFS+ using Gparted and make the partition bootable.

3. copy the contents of the install iso (you can access you HD from Linux) into that partition

4. Install chameleon on the install USB drive using the instruction from their site.

5. Use the UBS drive to install OS X

It might be possible to do all this from windows if you can figure out how to install things to the MBR and first partiton blocks from windows. If you want more detailed instructions, pm me.
