Hi guys

sorry if this question has been asked already, but after searching the web and the forum I didnt find an answer to my problem, so I'll lay it out for you.

I've got an iso of os x 86 10.4.4 that I am trying to install.

I have used disk part under windows to create a 6.5gb partition with id=af successfully (after a few tries!)

When I boot the dvd, it gets to the point where I must choose the destination for the install, so I open up the disk utility to format the partition that I created earlier, only the disk utility lists nothing but my dvd drive.

My hardware setup is as follows:

Asrock 939 Dual Sata

AMD Athlon 3200+ Venice

2GB RAM

2 SATA hdd (each 160GB)

3PATA hdd (1 10GB, 1 30GB and 1 80Gb)

2 Optical drives (one dvd rom, 1 dvd rw)

ATI Radeon 9800XT 256mb

Creative audigy 2 zs

The 80 GB pata disk is the one that I wish to install onto, it is split into a 20gb partion for my windows c drive, a 74gb data drive, and the remaining for OS X.

Any suggestions would be massively appreciated!

Thanks

your 80gig drive has a 20 gig + 74 gig for data and the remaining for osx = 94gig plus remaining..?

fascinating

Do you need to install a driver for the SATA controller if you install Windows? If so, the OSX installation will also fail to see the controller. I know that there are a lot of problems with SATA and installation and there are some solutions for specific controllers in the forum/wiki. Some SATA and RAID controllers simply won't work with OSx86. I can't really help you further because I have no experience with this but someone else might be able to point you to a specific answer. Good luck.

I do have to install a driver for the sata controller with a windows install, so that explains why the osx installer fails to see the SATA drives. would this cause problems with the installer being able to see the hard drives on the onboard PATA controller as well?

thanks for the reply by the way, all help/thoughts much appreciated!

ah, I may have solved the problem. When I looked at the HCL to see if my motherboard etc. were supported, I looked at the list for 10.4.5, which says my board works well, isntead of for 10.4.4 (the iso I have) which says that it has issues.

Will try again with a 10.4.5 iso and let you guys know if that was the problem.

Cheers
