Hi,

Wanted to share how to add network shared printer to your Mac OsX, shared with SAMBA on windows machine or NAS. I tried to find this topic in internet and didn't found. so this infromation could be usefull

System definition:

  • iAtkos 4i(10.5.4) upgraded to 10.5.5
  • NAS box (Synology 207+)
  • USB Printer Samsung CLP-300 connected to NAS

Problem definition:

In my system it was impossible to add this printer from "Print & Fax" panel via "+" button (Windows icon)

Steps:

1. Download and install Samsung original drivers

2. Open local cups server via browser http://localhost:631

3. Select Administration -> Printers -> Add Printer

4. fill the name of printer (I used CLP300) without spaces and special symbols and press continue

5. Select from pull down menu Windows Printer via SAMBA and press continue

6. fill samba printer in following format and press continue:

smb:username:password@IP_of_server/printername

where:

  • username, password - username & password from Samba (NAS)
  • IP_of_server - IP address of SAMBA server (NAS)
  • printername - name of printer in SAMBA, as seend from windows for my NAS it was usbprinter

7. On "Provide a PPD File" select from path <name of your mac volume>/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resousces following file Samsung CLP-300 Series.gz (name of printer) and press Add Printer

that's it, if need change printer options via Set Printer Options
