hecker
The latest transmission caused a lot of trouble on my rig, so it could be that. You could try running a test with only 1 or 2 parallel downloads and see if gets better. Does sleep/wake work on your system? ameris_cyning
What is your network interface? If it is a USB-wireless setup, forget about downloading torrents. adamsweeting
Are you running the JMicron.kext? That kext causes issues with 4Gb+ of RAM (not for all though). Bin your IDE devices and do away with the JMicron.kext. SATA all the way baby! I also agree with hecker... Transmission gave me some issues as well. But it didn't KP on me that much. joesintrini
Hi everybody!, i´ll try the test with 2 parallel downloads to see if it´s work, but at the moment i just can have one, if not, frozen screen, -Does sleep/wake work on your system?- The computer doesn´t wake after sleep, i have to restart it, anyway it does samething strange, every day i turn off the computer with keys ctrl-alt-cmd-eject, and someday it turns completly off, another it doesn´t and i have to keep pressed the on button for a few secs to completly turn it off, My network interface is a pci card detected as airport, the D-Link DWA-556. do you think this could be the problem? do you think it could be fixed with kalyway 10.5.4 instead of 10.5.2? -Are you running the JMicron.kext?- i think i´m running the sleep kernel of kalyway 10.5.2 disc -Bin your IDE devices and do away with the JMicron.kext. SATA all the way baby!- Do you think it´s the only way? i wouldn´t like to trow away a 160 gig ide, but if there´s no other way If i see anything important i´ll tell you ! Thanks a lot for your help guys! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/139577-frozen-screen-with-power-simbol/#findComment-991887 Share on other sites
Lanceomni
I had problems like this after upgrading to 4GB of memory. I saw freezes in Photoshop and Transmission. I did not think it was memory related as I didnt think Transmission would utilize much memory. Checking Activity Monitor's Memory Tab I found I was wrong. I used the boot flag maxmem=2024 to limit memory to 2gb and it fixed the problem. After doing this I nudged it up and found that 3.5gb or less provided stability (Some have mentioned that 3.2gb or more gave them problems.) Recently I found this post http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=127611 This guy has some modified 64bit kexts which work. I installed the appropriate one for my machine and removed the maxmem flag from boot. I have not had a crash yet.
