Hi,

I keep reading that Realtek 8139 based NICs work perfectly with OS X. However, my system fails to load the driver and I'm wondering why.

I'm running OS X 10.4.4 on an ASUS L3C Notebook with an onboard RTL 8139 (I believe it's the D revision -- does that make any difference?). The card worked fine on both XP and Linux.

The following error messages related to the network card appear in the console:

...

error mapping module file com.apple.driver.AppleRTL8139Ethernet.

can't map com.apple.driver.AppleRTL8139Ethernet in preparation for loading

Can't determine dependencies for com.apple.driver.AppleRTL8139Ethernet.

Couldn't alloc class "com_apple_driver_RTL8139"

...

I've searched the forum but only found positive reports on the 8139. I would greatly appreciate any hints on how to get the controller to work.

Is there some way to load the kext manually from single user mode and get some more information on what's going wrong.

Or maybe there's an updated driver...

Thanks for your help!

You could try coping the rtl8139 kext within the ionetworking family from a 10.4.3 install to your current install worked for me

Same problem as you ! But my card is a rtl8180 !

Still waiting

i got my Realtek RTL8139 PCI to work. But one problem i still cannot solve. i have to manually go to system preferences>network and detect my connection every time i start my 10.4.4. when i go to "network" in sys pref, a msg pop up saying "New Port Detected". how to take care of this problem?
