peja_
Hi everybody Ok, so I installed Windows Vista, and after that I installed iDeneb 10.5.5 (on same hard disk, but on different partition of course). iDeneb works almost flawlessly (only problem is that my dvd rw is not showing in system profiler...its not recognized). When i insert dvd (not blank, it contains data on it) no icon appear on desktop - i cant use my dvds! That was problem #1 Problem #2 is that my Vista wont boot...i can get that boot prompt by pressing F8 before my OS X boots, but when i choose vista it says that OS is missing... How can i fix this? I would like to avoid reinstalling OS X (I can install Vista however, i didn't install almost anything on it yet), but it would be best if there is a faster solution Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/138736-ideneb-1055-and-vista/ Share on other sites
peja_
ok, i realise that no one answered my questions, and the chanses are slim im gonna get answer for my newly created problem, but here it goes. i DID manage to fix dual boot i also did manage to fix my dvd by folowing this post form insanelymac (there is attached kext IOATAFamily.kext) I had the same problem. I replaced this kext, and it solved. Please note: 1. delete current kext before installing CODICE sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext 2. install with kext helper. or just copy the file there, and fix permissions 3. MUST delete kext cache, or boot with -f otherwise it loads old kext from cache 4. if after boot, you get panic.... then probaby the sorting of hard-disks has changed, and you need to boot with "rd=diskXsY" where X is either 0,1,2 and Y is 1,2,3 etc. (normally disk0s1 or disk0s2, or disk1s1 or disk1s2)... please note if you had this problem and fixed it with rd= then you need to put it automatic for next-boot, by editing /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist add this to the empty string tag there.. after i done this i incountered a new problem. here is my post from that forum ok, i had the same problem about ideneb not being able to recognize my dvd, and i followed sayagain's tutorial and: 1. as soon as i installed attached kext my dvd icon appeared on desktop 2. i didn't know how to 'delete kext cahce' so i restarted with desire to type in '-f' at the boot, but BEFORE i got any chance to do so, an error was displayed on my screen saying 'path to the file/com.apple.Boot.plist not found' at that point i can press F8 and get my old darwin boot menu displaying my windows partition, my ideneb partition, and another mac partition (only data on it, nothing to boot. but it is still displayed at menu) so basicly, everything is working (for now), but i am anoyed with that error... so, should i still edit com.apple.boot.plist (even though i didn't have to type in that "rd=diskxsy" at the boot)? and if yes, can you be more specific how should that look at the end? when i opened it with textpad there is a row of <key> </key> and then <string> </string> so i kinda guess i should add and some <key> values? i mean, besides string tag you already mentioned (string tag would look like <string>rd=disk1s2</string> or not? thanks anyone? thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/138736-ideneb-1055-and-vista/#findComment-986773 Share on other sites
