Rapnub
Hi, I've been lurking around the boards for a while and would appreciate some advice on a new laptop purchase for my girl. I'm currently on a MacBook Pro and loving it. I'd like to get her onto a similar box (doesn't have to be as good) running osx, but I'd rather not pay macbook prices. She'll be using it mainly for photoshop, photography editing (needs to be able to hook up the DSLR), itunes, video, and internet. Photoshop is a RAM hog so I'll want at least 3 gig. From what I've gathered, my best option might be the Dell Vostro 1510. Configured to about $700 Canadian. Any recommendations in that price range? Thanks! trance4jim
Hp dv5 or dv7 seems like a viable option too. There is a guide for the dv5.nvidia 9600gt(nice) They are selling at costco's website with customization.90 return policy 2 year warranty(not bad). I'm doing more research before I take the plunge.I'm looking for a current mbp competitor. The dv7 has firewire that I need.Still gotta determine how solid it is though. zakfontaine
Acer Aspire one is a very good choice. It was a very painless install (guide over at aspireoneuser.com forums), only 400, and they have it in a pink now too. Only thing is it only supports 1.5gb of ram. trance4jim
Aspire One is a good value but not in $100 range. Great for surfing net or email. My MSI wind is quite powerful but not for gaming of HD viewing. They both suffer from a 1024x600 screen whichs affects certain programs from functioning properly. I still love mine for streaming mp3s bluetoothed to my speaker system!
