Hello. I've been eyeing this external HDD for a while and think I might use it for Time Machine/any files I think should be portable. However, eSATA is key, and although the device is described as Mac-compatible, I think that might just be for USB 2.0/FireWire. I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.4 (Leo4All 4.1 AMD) with an Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe/WiFi-AP motherboard; will the HDD work with my system? Do Macs even use eSATA? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

P.S. If it's any help, I know all my USB ports are functional--haven't been able to test FireWire since I don't own any FireWire devices.

I have a La Cie Harddisk 1000 GB attached with Esata for my backup OSX installation (see my signature). Works pretty well with Esata like an internal SATA HD. But there are some issues. I have two separate SATA controller on my mobo. Attached to the Intel SATA Controller the Esata HD has to be attached and turned on at boot. Otherwise HD will not be recognized. Connected to the other SATA Controller (JMicron) the HD can be booted or can be attached to running OSX and be removed and be reattached without problems. So there is no guarantee that it will work with all features on your mobo. Firewire will certainly give you no problems at all. But speed difference is big. ESATA is about 100mb/s and Firewire about 40mb/s. I like the La Cie Harddisk very much - but gets quite hot  around 45 C internal Samsung disks are about 30 C.
