The following information is only what I have found to work for me, with my current hardware configuration. It may not work for you. Should you choose to use any of the

information posted you are doing so at your own risk. - Good Luck!

"Short and Sweet"

Install troubles with Kalyway's 10.5.1 on a GA-EP35-DS3L Motherboard

using a 500GB SATA2 Segate Baracuda Drive.

List of issues I encountered. (No mater how the drive was partitioned or formatted!)

  1. Hard Drive appeared as only 128GB
  2. Hard Drive was shown as 128GB in Disk Utility
  3. Hard Drive was not listed as a choice of drives to Install the OS to.

The Simple Solution:

Connect the Hard Drive to a Mac Externally and Partition and Format it using Disk Utility.

I used a USB Enclosure but FireWire or eSATA should work as well.

I formatted the drive as follows, and I would suggest doing the same.

Make the 1st Partition 127.99GB HFS+, create a 2nd Partition with the remaining space.

Once the drive is partitioned and formatted insert the Install disk into the DVD drive and reboot. Install OSX to the External Drive and once the installation completes reboot into the BIOS and set the system to boot from the "USB-HDD".

(For some odd reason the first time I tried to boot my External USB Hard Drive the system rebooted, but it worked fine the 2nd time.)

Everything should be working now, you should be booted into OSX on the External Hard Drive. Now to make the drive work on the Internal SATA Connection...

Download the ATA Hi-Cap Driver ( http://speedtools.com )

You might be able to find it elsewhere...try Google.

You can probably ignore the readme/pdf's as it's incredibly simple to install.

Just find the Driver in the appropriate folder and install it. That's it, now reboot into the BIOS and change the boot priority settings back the way they were.

Congratulations! You're Hard Drive should now boot just fine when connected to the internal SATA ports. And OSX won't have any troubles detecting the size of your Hard Drive.

You can check the drive in the System Profiler if you like.

I hope this helps someone, These issues have been driving me nuts for weeks, and I have spent far to much time on something that should have been so simple.

If you encounter any issues or just want to leave some feedback on your own results following this post, please I love to hear all about it.
