Mac or Hacka-Mac ?

so ive been trying the distros of the various Mac OSX operating system discs and still havent found one that fully works im having problems with audio or lan or combination of the two... mostly the lan that is however. This is bringing me to the question if i cant get this thing to work with the hardware that i have should i just go out and buy a mac or order parts to build a complete new system for the hack os ? i already have 3 systems that i would like mac osx to be on at least one of them but still have difficulty..... i have the following mobos etc..

 

 

Asus A8N-E

  • Install Method: Leopard 10.5.2 Zephyroth AMD
  • BIOS Version: Unknown; Revision: Unknown
  • Audio: Install AC97 package on the install menu
  • LAN: Install Forcedeth from the install menu
  • SATA & IDE: IDE works; SATA not tested
  • Install Boot Hang Fix:
    1. Boot with the DVD
    2. Press F8, then type "-s"
    3. Type "cd /usr/standalone/i386"
    4. Type "dd if=./guid/boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsY bs=512 count=1" (X is the disk number and Y is the partition number on which you installed Leo)
    5. Type "dd if=./guid/boot0 of=/dev/diskX bs=400 count=1"
    6. Type "./startupfiletool -v /dev/diskXsY ./boot_v8"

ABIT

  • Install Method: Kalyway 10.5.2, Atkos 10.5.2 AMD, Leo4Allv4.1
  • BIOS Version: Abit; Revision: 18
  • BIOS setup options: lan bootrom enable; sata->raid->AHCI
  • Audio: Works out of the box
  • LAN: works with this add 0x054C10DE to IOPCIPrimaryMatch (Info.plist), surfing ok so far, issues with filezilla
  • IDE: Full DMA speed with AppleNforceATA.kext and IOATAFamily.kext from Leo4allv4.1 (MCP67)
  • SATA: not fully tested yet (enable AHCI under SATA/RAID)
  • USB: ok
  • VIDEO: Framebuffer only, no accel
  • Shutdown, restart works, sleep not tested
  • Install Instructions:
    1. Partitioned as MBR
    2. Installed using an AMD Kernel, and MBR selections under customize
    3. Complete install and reboot
    4. Use -s on first boot
    5. "mount -uw /" then "passwd" and set a password
    6. Delete or move all graphic driver: "cd /SYSTEM/LIBRARY/EXTENSIONS; rm NV*; rm ATI*"
    7. "touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone" finally "exit"
    8. Edit /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist for your framebuffer screen resolution: <key>Graphics Mode</key><string>1280x1024x32</string>

which isnt really listed amongst the hardware compatibility page...... its currently running on Deneb_V1.3 10.5.5 and the audio and internet i cant get to work at all....

Conclusion: Do i get a mac laptop or do i work on one of these pcs and create a mac and have the extra trouble with the possibility of it not working? Should i just go ahead and get another pc setup to work strictly with the mac and gain more clutter since i have all these fast running pcs... Is there a high probability of getting the lan/ audio using kext files????

get a mac, learn more about how it works, and then try to fix your osx86 problems.

 

That's what I did. Besides, you'll enjoy the legal automatic updates, and just how the OS works flawlessly (or near flawlessly, that is because I tinkered with something and had to do a reformat)

well what advantages do i have more then just automatic updates from buying a mac ?

It's just a nice machine. Thin, light, good battery life (notebooks). Well designed, good resale value...

If you can afford it, get a mac. Especially if you want a laptop.
