Eric N
Hi everybody, I tried to search first before posting what I want to achieve but I couldn't get a clear answer. So here's my situation. Current config: Laptop Gateway P-6822 (17") Disk1: - Vista partition (Primary bootable) - Vista Recovery partition - Vista Data partition - OSX86 partition (Primary bootable) - 10.5.1 IAtKOS DVD Everything has been working fine. I just installed a 2nd hard drive in the laptop (this laptop has a 2nd sata connection for a 2nd hard drive). The laptop recognizes the new hard drive fine. Here's what I want to achieve: - Move my OSX86 partition from Disk1 to the 2nd hard drive. - Delete OSX86 partition from Disk1 - To be able to change boot loader to launch OSX from the 2nd hard drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Eric Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/137461-moving-osx86-partition-from-disk1-to-disk2/ Share on other sites
whodidat
install clean osx on drive 2, config bootloader to see the install and verify that u can boot into the new os. (inside new os) go to utilities and use the migration assistant. it'll say 'migration method', choose the 2nd option -From a time machine backup or other disk-. If the old osx shows up in the following screen, you're good to go... Eric Open diskutil partition/format the second drive how you wish it then select the old partition containing the install use the Restore option in the right window drag the install partition to the Source and the new install partition to the Destination then Restore button to copy everything across. All that is left is installing your boot loader to the new partition I would suggest Chameleon as you really don't have to do much but open it and choose the destination as the new partition to install it too. For booting the new install most laptops or any machine really these days have a key you hit when booting to get a boot menu to choose which media you wish to boot from mine is F12 you should check yours and use it to boot with. For deleting the partition once you have copied it across try windows disk management tool to reformat it not sure if it will allow you to expand the partition or not if you have something like a Knoppix live cd/dvd then you can use QTParted to resize an existing partition to take over the old ones space or get something like Partition Magic for use on windows.
