logika1
Hello, I am running 10.5.2 with no problems, but after using Kalyway 10.5.3 Combo update, I reboot and get a NO (prohibited sign) after reboot. I tried installing only the update and not installing the Kernel (Vanilla/Modbin), same thing. I only installed Vanilla or Modbin, same thing. I really would like to update but am plauged by this problem. I am running: DELL XPS 410 Q9550 2.8GHZ 8GB RAM NVIDIA 9800GT 2X500 GB SATA II WD (NON-RAID) Could you please advise? PS: I have a solid 10.5.2 installation now and am worried to try an update. How can I save this image to restore it in case of a another update crash? alicizmar
Google for "Carbon Copy Cloner". You can make disk images with it. Alternatively, you could use Disk Utility from your installation disc to make a restorable disk image, though I'm not as sure of its effectiveness. As for the prohibited thing coming up in 10.5.3, I'll let someone more knowledgeable answer the "why" as I'm not exactly an old hand at OSX86. That being said, have you tried booting in Safe Mode in 10.5.3? Or using update -v at the Darwin prompt? If I read right, you have to do that after installing the Kalyway update for it to work. Thanks for the great response. I will try using the Disc Utility and Carbon Copy before next try and I am almost positive I was using update -V as well.
