NYC Coyote
So I was looking at picking up an AppleTV and installing Boxee on it. So I could stream from my local NAS, play divx / xvid. As well as stream from Hulu and other sources. Then I looked at the specs of an AppleTV and they pretty much suck. Would never be able to handle 1080P video with that processor. I have seen threads on this here, but nothing recent. So lets start a good one. What I would love to have is: 1. 1080P ability: I'm guessing this means at least 2ghz duo core with 2 gig of RAM. 2. Video Outputs: HDMI, DVI, Normal RCA (for older sets), and a VGA (when a monitor is needed) 3. Audio: Best I can get - Half the experience is the sound 4. Working Gigabit Ethernet 5. Working Wireless N 6. Working Remote (hopefully something that would work with a universal) 7. Bluetooth (for keyboards, mice etc) 8. And a big a** hard drive to use this as a NAS for all my video files 9. Pretty nice looking case as this will be part of the multimedia center. Preferably black (why can't you get an actual AppleTV in black?!?!?) I know its a lot to ask. So any recommendations on hardware from the community here? On a side, is there a Hackintosh image of AppleTV? This way no need to install the whole OS just to use the interface....why bog down the system. opet
This is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm currently using my MBP 2.16 as my main source of HD content, but it feels a bit slow with a lot of times. With 1080p I quite often get stuttering and lots of dropping frames. So I'd advice in a faster CPU if you have the chance. I'm not using Boxee but Plex. I'd love a good thread about cases, hardware etc. There are way too many flashy cases full of LEDs and windows. Personally, I'm looking for a black case without bells and whistles. No LCD or LEDs. A volume knob would be great if it was working and could control the system volume. Have a look at this motherboard. Would be perfect for a tiny case, but I have not idea if it is supported or not. Anyone? I haven't found an actual image of AppleTV, but I have an image witha modified Tiger installation that runs backrow. Would do, but I'd rather just use a stripped down Leopard install. Don't know about Boxee, but Plex doesn't even run on Tiger.
