I have a Dell 9400/e1705 with everything working except the 3945 wireless. I used the Dell post driver install package and everything seems fine, however after using my network Broadcom 440x builtin card hard for more than 10 seconds or so, ESPECIALLY in vmware, the card locks up.

By locks up I mean it's transfer falls to 10KB/s and sometimes even stops working!

Has anyone else had this happen? help would be awesome, thanks!

OK so I reinstalled OSX tonight and it was still happening. I think I narrowed it down to VMware Fusion. I've installed Parallels and have windows working and downloading in conjunction with the OSX OS.

So I'm not sure if people out there just aren't using Fusion or if their setups are working, but for future reference to anyone that's experiencing NIC lockups whenever Fusion is even running in the background this could be the cause.

It isn't just you. Almost everyone who has a broadcom 440 on a Dell sees the ip address drop and you get a loopback after receiving any real amount of data.

There is currently no fix for this. Some people have had mild success using dhcp BUT with hardcoding an ip address.

Dude thanks so much, I swear I searched all over for info about broadcoms dropping and never found any info. I'll try the manual IP and see how that works. Thanks again!

I ended up going to Microcenter and getting the D-Link DUB-E100 USB ethernet device for $30. Downloaded WORKING drivers, not off of their site, but off of http://www.sustworks.com/site/news_usb_ethernet.html (linked to from a few other threads on here). No problem anymore :D
