gjallar
Hello everybody, I am just curious if someone found a solution to the problem that Office 2008 can't be opened when QuartzGL is enabled. Because i really need to have QuartzGL enabled - otherwise my CPU is too slow to handle Leopard. thanks in advance for all answers. Kramark
Maybe there is some problem with the driver you are using. Does it work with other applications?? gjallar
Actually I don't know if my driver is working correctly. System Profiler lets me think so, though: Hardware-Unterstützt should be "Hardware-accelerated" and Unterstützt should be "Supported" in english. And it is only Word that's crashing - Excel, Powerpoint and Entourage do work. Is there any way I can find out if my Graphics Card Driver isn't working properly ? By the way i am running Leopard 10.5.2 with NVinject 0.2.1 with a Geforce 6600 GT (AGP Port - thus only PCI Speed). Thanks again, -- Gjallar Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135815-office-2008-quartzgl/#findComment-963378 Share on other sites
hecker
Maybe it has nothing to do with your video card. You could try re-installing Office 2008 completely or removing your user files "/Users/your_account/Library/Application Support/Microsoft" and "/Users/your_account/Library/Preferences/Microsoft" An experiment also worth trying would be to create a new user account and find out if Word crashes when running it from there. Good luck! EDIT: As I suspected, this is probably not a video driver issue (or OpenGL for that matter) but a known Office 2008 problem. I found this interesting thread, googling around: http://www.mcgimpsey.com/macoffice/office/...ting.html#fonts If fixing the file permissions (via disk utility) and looking for corrupted fonts does not work, then you can try reading the rest of the original help thread, here: http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Mac/mi...2/msg00773.html I would, however, start by repairing the permissions and creating a new user account first. EDIT2: Ok, I remembered having a similar problem with Word in Windows. The problem turned out to be a corrupted "Normal.dot" file. Here's how to fix that issue under OS X: http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Mac/mi...2/msg00717.html EDIT3: Included the microsoft preferences directory to the list of directories to erase to the list above (see code segment). EDIT4: I also speak german, so feel free to PM me if you have trouble understanding the instructions. gjallar
Wow thanks for you many suggestions hecker! I tried them all, but still - everything works except Word ... Unfortunatly it seems to be QuartzGL and nothing else - so the only fix is to disable it (then Word works ). I tried to disable it for Word only with this command. defaults write /Applications/Microsoft\ Office\ 2008/Microsoft\ Word.app/Contents/Info QuartzGLEnabled -int 0 But that failed too. However as my CPU is to slow to handle Leopard if I disable QuartzGL that's no solution for me - seems like OpenOffice 3.0 will get it's chance now. Thanks again to everybody who tried to help, but I think the only ones to solve this problem would be the guys from Microsoft. -- Gjallar Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135815-office-2008-quartzgl/#findComment-963531 Share on other sites
hecker
Really? Nothing? Damn. Did you also try it with a different account? And reinstalling it? I'll look around some more. That thing has to work! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135815-office-2008-quartzgl/#findComment-963541 Share on other sites
