I just installed iDeneb 10.5.5 as well and have THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM! I have an AMD machine though so I am assuming the above mentioned kext will not work for me. Any advice? I started another thread on my problem elsewhere and a member suggusted the following kext IOATAFamily.kext but it did not work for me.

thanks

PS - the drive is an NEC 2510A DVD burner

and having said that, I have heard this too, so it is possible that I installed it incorrectly myself. If anyone can provide more info as to how to 'PROPERLY' install this kext, it would be much appreciated, I am using kexthelper b7. I guess I just need to know which kexts to delete first.

Raziiq, if you figure it out, let me know what you deleted.

Thanks

Nope, doesn't seem to make any difference. Although the instructions aren't really that clear. Is says to delete the AppleViaAta.kext first and then reboot before continuing with installing the IOATAFamily.kext. I did this and as expected, could not boot back into Leopard. I was able to reinstall the ApplieViaATA.kext via windows, and then force my way back into Leopard. I tried again only this time doing the following:

deleted the AppleViaATA.kext

Backed up and then deleted IOATAFamily.kext.

Inserted the new IOATAFamily.kext from the download link (v1.1)

Opened Terminal and ran the commands as outlined (deleted extensions.mkext, 755 repair permissions, etc)

rebooted.

No DVD drive still, not to mention I now have problems booting into Leopard as I get stuck at the "waiting for root device" prompt. I am able to get in if I change from IDE to AHCI in my BIOS and use the "-f and rd=disk0s2" commands to point it to the right partition and force boot.

I did not have to do this before and was able to boot normally in IDE mode.

Any idea how to fix this or do I have to reinstall Leopard.................AGAIN!

Thanks

I don't think I can do that, XP is my main OS and that's where Acronis O/S selector was installed. I'm pretty sure I have to keep that one active. And besides, XP was the active one, prior to the kext install, and everything (including Leopard) was working and booting up normally via Acronis O/S Selector.

I have plenty of experience with it and can say Acronis works just fine with all 3 operating systems. It is only AFTER I install these IOATAFamily.kexts that I experience problems with getting into Leopard.

I am going to try another angle here. If i reformat my entire system and reinstall all O/S's with the BIOS set to AHCI, can it be done?

Thanks

anybody got CD/DVD Drive working in 10.5.5??

Yes, my new SATA DVD burner works in 10.5.5 but ONLY if I boot with bios set to AHCI (vs IDE), otherwise it doesn't show up in Leopard. It is a pain though to have to switch the bios back and forth between these two modes every time I boot because my windows XP + Vista installations were installed prior with IDE mode therefore results in a BSOD if I try and boot the windows OS's in AHCI mode. There are instructions out there for modifying both windows registries and installing drivers to get them to work in AHCI mode WITHOUT have to reinstall them. I will be attempting this next to get my whole system now running in AHCI mode.

Hey thanks for the info.

Is is that i just have to change the IDE to AHCI from BIOS and then boot my System into Leopard or i have to do something with kexts also in Leopard after booting??

Also can you please give me a link to the instructions you are talking about to have working Vista and Leopard without need to change AHCI/IDE??

No kexts (at least in my case) just switch and boot and voila! the DVD drive was now there!

The link I have found seems to be for intel based boards only. I am still looking for an AMD solution but can't seem to find one yet.

:(

ya thanks for the link, i myself also found a tutorial for adding a AHCI driver in Windows Vista before enabling AHCI from BIOS, so i m gonna try that and will post my feedback

I have just checked my BIOS settings and its sad to say that its already set to AHCI :censored2: and even then my CD/DVD not working.

Any other suggestions on how to make it work??
