Relatively new to the game, so forgive me if I miss glaring obvious points when posting my issues.

I managed to get 10.5.1 kalyway (then updated to 10.5.2) running on a HP Small Form Factor DC7600. I'm pretty proud of that one! I ventured onto the next project for two reasons: The DC7800 I have is Dual Core and I have a 512mb PCI-express 8600GT that I'd like to run and so it seemed natural to try getting running on the dual core machine.

I'm using Ideneb 10.5.5 - the only one I can get to even load the installer with on this Dc7800

I managed to clear the following hurdles:

- before loading the installer the apple logo appeared at the machine would hang. - Installed the new GFX card (8600GT) and disabled the onboard LAN - SUCCESS!

- After installation to the local SATA drive the machine would hang with "waiting for root device" - Went into the BIOS and changed the SATA Setup to: Raid, Restarted (same error) then went back in and changed it back to: IDE - SUCCESS!

- After installation the OSX startup would just sit there with no apparent error messages - Was using the wrong drivers on IDENEB. Re-installed with a blank setup - SUCCESS!

Now.... Can you help.

The machine starts up normally and loads the apple logo and spinning wheel thingy. After that the monitors go into powersaving mode. I've ran it in safe mode and the text shows its starting up, up the point where Leopard is to be visually displayed and it does the same thing - goes into powersaving mode.

I've got both DVI and VGA cables plugged in, but no output from either of them at this point, both channels into saving mode.

I reckon if I clear this hurdle then I've cracked it. Sure hoping it isn't the compatibility with this GFX card. As I mentioned, its a 512mb variant.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Boot using the -x -v flags at the f8 boot prompt (verbose safe mode) , if the problem is really the graphics then you should get to the desktop at that point using only the VESA drivers.

Install nvkush ( http://diabolik1605.com/DHF/ ) , both the links on the top right, the nvidia kext installer and the nvkush installer.

Delete your /System/Library/Extensions.mkext file , it will regenerate itself.

Reboot using the -f -v flags at the f8 boot prompt.

Thanks for the response, only the onboard VGA isn't supported at all, so I can't see anything to amend any files.

-v -x shows no errors and boots up as normal, just when the graphical interface is to be displayed, the monitor goes into power saving. I can see that the OS has loaded in the background, a key press on the keyboard activates the hard disk.

Will re-install and use the NVKrush driver from Ideneb only, you think that will work?

Thanks again

I got the audio working using the patch from the Kalyway 10.5.2 disk and sound is working great now except no input (only output). Not sure about the 8600 though, I am running a Quadra card that is working fine.

Hi, Could you tell me what exact patch you extracted?

yes, you said azailian audio on the 10.5.2 disk but that is for the 7700, what about the 7800...I have it running also all fine except ethernet and sound, it has a Geforce7200 and works fine with Nvkush 256m, just audio, I can do lan on a old 3com card or Broadcom that works in my other rig.

Ive tried AC97 and Azailia, nothing, even tried from the Kalyway 10.5.2 disk, same thing, nothing

the audio from hp reports a ADI1884 codec
