jimbob21
Ok, for starters I have done some descent searching/researching concerning this issue on this site and on the web and I have yet to find a solution. (Here is another thread asking of the same problem http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...gal+instruction ) I am running the VMWare patched OSx86 on the following: Compaq Presario 2100: AMD Mobile XP 2600+ 512 mb RAM 40gig HD with (5.6 available with image in place) I got all the vm workstation stuff setup (with what seems to be proper). I booted several times and it just stayed @ the Apple with the twirl forevery. I looked around online and tried platform=x86pc and -x for safe mode. None helped so I finally tried -v. That is where I saw the Illegal Instruction errors. I kind of figure that my problem might be the fact that the vmware image was obviously not created on my coputer. So I was thinking I might need to figure out how to fresh install the OS myself, but all the info online is mixed and I'm not terribly sure where I need to get the OS. Thanks for any help. I really appreciate it. Jim Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/1351-same-issue-illegal-instructions/ Share on other sites
Jake
Do you have sse2 support? A fresh install won't help because the binaries will still use sse2 instructions, and the OS is hard to find because it's a beta release for developers. cyrana
Jake is right, your CPU is unsupported. You only have SSE. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/1351-same-issue-illegal-instructions/#findComment-8253 Share on other sites
jimbob21
Ah, thanks a ton guys.. I had a suspicion that this might have been the problem, but I looked around and wasn't sure where I could find out if my proc was supported or not. Thanks a ton guys! Looks like I'll just have to buy a powerbook Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/1351-same-issue-illegal-instructions/#findComment-8274 Share on other sites
