amaning11
I posted this in the hardware section but had no reply, can anyone here help me? i am building a hackintosh Q6600 processor 4gb ddr2 800mhz ram 500gb sata hdd sata dvdrw HD4850 gpu P5K-VM Motherboard I want to be able to use logic pro 8 but i have seen that both the onboard Graphics Media Accelerator 3100 and the HD 4850 are unsupported. This causes the system to run in VESA mode is it called? What problems am i going to have using OSX and logic? i am going to be dualbooting XP I have the option of sending the 4850 back and replacing it with a 9800gtx+ but that would be allot of hassle ( i ordered from pixmania and they are apparently terrible at returns, they are based overseas...) Thanks! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/134575-logic-pro-8-osx-without-supported-gfx/ Share on other sites
MaaseyRacer
Send it back and grab the 9800GTX+. The 4850 is just not compatible yet. amaning11
I have read that the programs i want to run will run fine in VESA mode though. I have no need to play games or watch movies or flash in osx. All i need is the ability to use Logic pro 8, or logic express, everything else i can do in XP I would rather not have to send the card back as i just know it will be months before i see a refund :/ Can anyone else confirm? i want to be certain before i post it back. amaning11
so its not going to work? and i dont have the option of returning the card anymore, 9800gtx+ card prices have just gone up massively! Hopefully HD4850 will be supported soon Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/134575-logic-pro-8-osx-without-supported-gfx/#findComment-954238 Share on other sites
peach-os
take a 7300gt - will work (almost) ootb and is really cheap. absolutely enough for logic. Zaap
Get the 9800 or another supported card. It's kind of ridiculous to run OSX on any kind of decent monitor without hardware acceleration. Logic may not even install without it- most Apple Pro Apps require Core Image and Quartz Extreme to render UI and plugin elements. I'm fairly certain that logic requires this. Synthology
Greetings, I am running Logic Pro 8.0.2 on a 7600GT and an 8800GT. The 7600GT is more than you need for Logic. I don't recommend vesa. Matter of fact, I don't think it will even run correctly. I know for sure that Mainstage will not run without acceleration. I recommend looking for either of the cards I mentioned. Someone suggested a 7300. That one is good as well. I only went with a 7600 and 8800 because I needed 2 DVI ports for my samsung screens on both my setups. Hope this helps.
