VooD
Hi, I've just installed 10.5.5 from vanilla disc (with cdboot 132) in my laptop and everything works perfectly...everything except the VGA. The problem is the geforce driver doesn't seem to control the speed of the card as Windows one does, and so the card remains at 2D speed (about 150mhz instead of 400mhz). This makes exposé, screensavers, quicktime, and other effects look jerky. Of course you can solve this by editing your bios with NiBitor forcing 2D mode to run at 3D mode speeds, but of course that will make the laptop use a lot of battery power. Anybody knows any other way to fix this?
Kfal
Looks like I'm digging this post up, but I've got the same problem. (8600m gs, 10.5.5 vanilla) The driver seems to start the GPU at 2D clock speeds, but after doing some graphics-intensive things (hiding and showing dashboard quickly several times, expose repeatedly, etc) it seems to switch to a higher clock (possibly 3D speed?) temporarily. I've also considered editing the BIOS, but that should be a last resort imho. Anyone else experiencing GPU downclocking (or what seems like it) with 10.5.5 drivers? alip
have you try to sleep display once after log in. This makes my 8600m gt smooth. you can use hot corners or there is a application for this...
