Powerful Hackintosh Build

Hi!

I'm in the market for a new desktop pc, and I figured I might as well build an OSX-compatible one when I'm at it.

I'm going to use the PC for school-related work, probably some Photoshop, watching videos, a (tiny) bit of programming, and gaming (mostly GTA:IV I guess). I have in mind that I don't want to upgrade it all the time, so some components might be over-kill for now. Primarily, I want some opinions on OSX-compatibility. Feedback on other stuff is also appreciated (especially if something is utter {censored}).

The 4870 isn't compatible afaik, but I'm patient for a driver release of some kind. If not, I'll just buy a 2600pro for cheap.

Anyway, here's the current build list:

ASUS Wireless PCI Card 11b/g Retail (WL-138g V2)

- How is this compatibility-wise? Anyone using it?

2x CORSAIR TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 4096MB CL5, Kit w/two matched CM2X2048-6400 (TWIN2X4096-6400C5 G)

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS4

INTEL Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83Ghz 12MB FSB 1333 (BX80569Q9550A)

-I plan to run the Q9550 OC'ed to 3,4Ghz, so the FSB and DDR2-clocks are in sync. Is this attainable with boxed cooler?

LOGITECH ILLUMINATED KEYBOARD

SAMSUNG CS/ DVD+/ -RW 20x16x48 Bulk White (SH-S203D/BEWE?PCC)

- This or whatever S-ATA DVD-RW-drive is cheapest when I buy

SAMSUNG F1 1TB 3.5" SATA2 7200RPM 32MB (HD103UJ)

ANTEC Sonata III Miditower, w/500W PSU

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD4870 512M GDDR5 PCI-E

LOGITECH RX1000 laser mouse, USB

Thanks in advance,

Radeon HD 4870 will not work properly with OSX get a 9800GTX+ it is probably the best card that works with OSX right now and they are priced right. There is Progress on the 9800GX2, but it is still not right. Also RAM is way cheap right now Newegg has 16GB DDR2800 (4x4GB for $350). Make sure the DS4 supports 16GB if you purchase.

If you get a wireless card get a D-Link DWA-542, works without any additional drivers.

I know the 4870 won´t work properly as of yet, but I still want it. It beats the 9800GTX performance-wise, and if I need it, I can "borrow" another 4870 from the pc i built for my mom and run Crossfire for Windows-based games. My build is going to run a completely legal version of Windows Vista Business 64-bit as primary OS until OSX is supported by the 4870 anyway. Sooner or later ATi is going to release their mac-cards/drivers. I will just buy some cheap-ass 2600pro for running OSX if the 4870 turns out to be completely incompatible over time.

I am patient. Still, I appreciate the input.

Appreciate the heads-up on the WiFi-card, although the DWA-542 isn´t available here in Norway.

The problem with WiFi-choice is compatibility with both OSX and Vista-64. Afaik the Asus WL-138g V2 offers compatibility with both.
