grey screen with mouse at vmware

hello evreyone im using Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD Intel_Amd (sse2/sse3) EFI V8 at vmware

and im stuck at grey screen with mouse.

before the grey screen with the mouse come i get this info:

plz help me

 

p.s: i cant install without vmware because i get the messge "still waiting for root device" and i cant resolve that.

can you boot into -s mode and copy the dmesg?

 

Also on a side note, i've been using workstation 6.5 and iDeneb 1.3 with 10.5.5 and it didn't work.

 

When you boot into single user mode, see if the system can actually find the virtual drive. I think it had to be formated before or something. I'm still working on it.

 

 

i think you posted most of your dmesg..didn't see it.

 

I think you're missing the virtual hard drive. as i said in my previous post, I can't get mine to appear either.

I am going to create a partition on my Vista drive, and see if it likes a physical disk as opposed to a Virtual disk.

 

I can kinda get Leopard Retail past this stage, but then VMware comes up with an error saying the guest OS has disabled the CPU... can't work that out.

I have been Donk... and I've downloaded your zip file with the virtual machine settings and virtual sparse disk.

 

Am I getting the CPU disabled thing because it's not a version of Leopard Server?

 

Depends. So let's drill into this a bit more.

 

1. What is the host OS?

2. What is the host CPU?

3. Which version of VMware are you running?

4. Which OSX are you using? Retail or a patched version e.g. JaS, iDeneb etc.?

 

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it all.

I am no n00b - I have got a super fast Retail Install on a Quad Core machine (see my sig).

I am trying to do a VM install on my laptop.

 

1) Host OS is Vista SP1

2) Host CPU is Core 2 Duo T7500

3) VMware is Workstation 6.5

4) I've got several... been trying the Reatail Leopard, and I've also tried iDeneb 1.3

 

Just can't seem to get past this CPU disabled thing on the Retail. I don't get it if I'm trying iDeneb (only get it when trying Retail). If I try to boot iDeneb using verbose boot, I can see loads of write errors - looks like it can't write to the disk.

 

Do you think it's worth trying to do an install to a partition on my physical HD?

That all looks OK. Can you post the VMX file please? Also I assume you have VT enabled in the BIOS>

Yep... have VT enabled in the BIOS (I didn't have it enabled, was getting "this machine is VT capable, but not enabled - so I've enabled that, still didn't change what happened to OS X - but the VMware error notification went away)

I will do that... However - strange development.

 

I removed USB from the VM, and now I've got iDeneb installing?! - Can't work it out, I'm going to see if I can boot into OS X once iDeneb has whirred away - and then see if I can get USB to work once I have a bootable system.

 

Next I'll try the Retail with no USB to see if that works.

Try removing just the following 2 lines:

Right now I have a very useable 10.5.5. I've got the graphics to fill my screen by editing the boot plist, network is working fine (I'm posting this from it).

 

I haven't added the USB back in yet.. Are you suggesting to remove those lines to get the USB to work, or to disable it?

What that does is remove the USB emulated keyboard which has been found to be a problem. You could then re-enale USB for other devices if you want.

Thanks for your help Donk. I'm going to remove the virtual USB keyboard from the config as I've had a couple of odd things happen to keystrokes. Other than that I'm not going to mess with the settings as I do have USB working nicely, and audio (altough jittery!).

 

One more question though.... Have you tried more than 1 vCPU?

Yes and I saw the same problems as running with more than one core on a real machine. Very slow and juddery interaction.
