Hey Everyone...

Well, I just installed 10.4.5 on my dell laptop with no install issues. I was amazed how easy it went. I started with a 10gig partition in windows. I did have to reformat to UNIX with the disk utility, but it worked fine after that. So, now I have a dual boot XP/OSX machine, which makes me happy... :happymac:

BUT... I still have 2 big issues, and after reading the forums here, it looks like there is not much hope (for now).

1.ATI Mobility Radeon X600 – Only getting 1024x768, and performance is lousy

2.Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller – OSX appears to see and Ethernet device, but nothing works.

Here are a couple screen caps with hardware info.

I have read several post with info on these components, but no real answers.

Anyone have any insight / updates or possible fixes? I'm a Mac OS novice, so I'm not really sure if I am even applying some of the workarounds correctly. So, if you have any suggestions, please dumb it down for me.

Thanks,

Scott

I'm not sure if you've seen it, but there is a patch to get some ATI PCI-Express graphics cards working. It's discussed here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=10415

It worked for the Mobility Radeon X300 in my 6000. I'd give it a try. As far as networking, I've noticed that unless I get the network card active somehow prior to booting, OS X will see my card but I don't have any connectivity. If I go to the one-time boot menu (F12 when starting up for me) and choose Onboard LAN, my network card lights will come on and then I can reboot to OS X and have network access. Not sure if it'll work for you as I've got the Broadcom 440x chipset.

Hope that helps,

Jon

Hey guys... if your ethernet is greyed out in the the networking pref pane, then it is very likely that your network card is being seen by the IONetworkingFamily.kext, however your device and vendor ID are likely incorrect. Get the proper device/vendor id from Windows or Linux... and give it a go. This should correct your problems.
