TheGreatDeceiver
stupid question I assume. I wasn't able to find anything on this on the board. I have a Dell XPS400 with a P4D, 3GHz. When I open system profiler it only shows it as 1 CPU. Is this normal? What would I need to do to have it recognize the dual core? thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13067-intel-dual-core-see-only-1cpu/ Share on other sites
StickyDigits
Might help if you let us know which version of OSX you're using. I'm using 10.4.5 MYZ version with a Dual Core CPU and System profiler sees both CPUs. You probably have a patch that is limiting your CPU ID. I am using this iso MacOSX 10.4.4 DVD patched 10.4.5 According to the nfo it includes all latest patches (whatever latest means). Go to maxxuss' site, under the 10.4.4 guide, there is a section on how to do it If you're still stuck, just ask Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13067-intel-dual-core-see-only-1cpu/#findComment-82943 Share on other sites
TheGreatDeceiver
wow, just went there. I am already confused . I assume I would use the post-installation under 10.4.4 procedures. When it says, mount your volume writable, I assume it refers to the DVD I got? And the rest I assume is on the DVD? Maybe I should just leave this alone before I render it useless. thank you Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13067-intel-dual-core-see-only-1cpu/#findComment-82954 Share on other sites

Open finder, and make a folder called "working-mach-kernel" at the top (root) of the drive. Then open up Terminal (Apps ==> Utils ==> Terminal ) and type: sudo mv /mach_kernel /working-mach-kernel/mach_kernel.backup sudo mv /Users/USERNAME-GOES-HERE/Desktop/mach_kernel / Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13067-intel-dual-core-see-only-1cpu/#findComment-82975 Share on other sites

raysmd
So, I stumbled on this thread, hoping that someone has a kernel for the Core Duo laptops would PM me. send mail to raysmd @ gmail.com I would really like to get the HPET working. also, another question. If one has the similar hardware as the MBP, couldn't I just use the restore dvd from the MBP to install onto my Thinkpad? Would I still need a patch?
