Well i am trying to connect my os x86 box and my xbox, now on my pc i needed a hub or crossover cable, but on my mac (ibook) the ethernet would detect the non cross over cable and switch wires, only newer macs apparently.

My question is is this the hardware or os x.

Because on my os x86 to xbox, the ftp sees the drives but comes up with erros when browsing the xbox.

To connect your Xbox you need to use a crossover cable as the Xbox does not have Gigabit Ethernet.

When Gigabit Ethernet was released they removed the need for a crossover cable but it only functions that way when you connect between 2 Gigabit connections.

The Xbox is picky on what programs will work, give Cyber Duck a try, it works perfect for me.

I'm not sure how a direct connection between the PC and the Xbox works in Mac because my Xbox is connected to my network through a router.

Well, i am not sure what does and what doesn't work anymore, i liked cyberduck but it never seemed to play ball with a certain xbox bins ftp site. Tried Yummy FTP, although it works i not sure if i like it, as i use ftp alot and don't want multiple programs, i will say though using my ibook, transmit and non crossover worked fine.
