"Still waiting for root device"... I've tried everything, I think.

Another issue I had was with an unsupported CD-ROM drive. I just disconnected it. If it were me, I would disconnect every device you don't need. BTW, did you check the wiki to see if the CD-ROM drive your using works?

EDIT: Oops, thought I read the last post and it wasn't fixed. Congrats it getting it working. Persistance pays!

Well, I can't figure out what is wrong. I'm giving up on OSX. I'm running Flyakite OS X and it has all the features I was looking forward to in true OS X anyways. Flyakite is really quite nice for novice's who are into OS X for its usability enhancements(Expose, Spotlight, Dock, etc.), and not its core differences from other OS's. I recommend it for people who just want the OS X look and feel.

Flyakite OS X

I'm about to give up aswell.

Worked on this day/night for 2 days straight. Finally got it to work at 5 am this morning (after staying up all night) only to awake to the "still waiting for root device" because I installed XP. Why would XP make OSX not work? I installed XP on a seperate primary partition.

I've disabled nearly everything in BIOS and unplugged everythign except my HD on primary master. Jumpers are set correctly and I've tried 3 different pata cables.

I've tried booting with all imaginable techiniques all give the same error.

I feal I'm wasting my time.

what is your setup?

i can't get OSX86 to run on my SATA HD on laptop either. VMware works. i think i should go buy a ATA laptop and try cuz i know some people got ATA running.

My setup is a home built PC, ASUS Mobo, 2 Ghz Celeron, 512 MB. 1 PATA HD 40 GB to osx, 20 gb to xp, the rest for media storage, UNIVERSAL 10.4.5. dvd install disk. I've tried putting OSX as the first primary, second primary, logical, everything under the sun and now that I was finally able to boot (first primary) it only allows me to boot up once then gives me the root error or some other random error after the first restart.

That's right, it boots up once, and then wont work after that. Zero changes to hardware or software, and yet it only boots once. Doesn't make sense? Well it doesn't to me either.

I'm not using any special hardware yet I can't get this to work no matter what I do.

Don't hate on me guys but I'm going to make a special post for my situation.

I'm getting the same "still waiting for root device" error when I try and boot natively (works fine in vmware).

I can't find any references to the "maxxus ownage" patch anywhere except in this thread, and it wasn't an option with my installer.

Can someone point me to the patch, or any other suggestion for resolving it?
