Hey.. I'm new to all of this so please bare with me.. :)

I've managed to get OS X working on my Packard Bell F7300 using VMWare but it's really slow, and I figured this is because of the strain of running two OS's at the same time?

I was just wondering if it would be possible to have it so that turning the laptop on and off alternately boots either XP or OS X, or if I could have OS X as the sole OS?

I've got a PC that I use for pretty much everything, but I love OS X, and buying a Mac isn't an option at the moment because I'm a student.

Just for the record I have tried searching, but all I seem to be able to find is dual booting XP on MacIntels. I am assuming that what I'm looking to do is possible?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT - Sorry.. forgot the OS version. I think it's Tiger 10.4. That's what the installation folder says anyway.. tiger-x86.

Correct, plus it is emulating the x86 pc.

You can dual boot as well as have OS X on its own. Search the forum if you want to know how to dual boot. OS X on its own? If I remember, just format the whole hard drive of all partitions except one for mac, and install onto that.

Well you seem to be wanting to both dual boot and use OS X on its own. Which do you want? :graduated:

tiger-x86 Image is Mac OS X 10.4.1.

I don't mind having just Mac OS X on the laptop because I have my main PC for using Windows and all the stuff I'm used to using etc.

I only really use the laptop for messing about.. trying out different versions of Vista *cringe*

If it's possible to run only Mac OS X on the laptop then I guess that would be the best option. Also, how would I go about getting Office X (?) to work on it ?

Sorry for so many newbish questions, and thanks for the quick reply ! :)

You can dual boot both windows and mac on the same laptop, or run Mac by itself. It's just you have to choose between dual booting or single booting. You can't do both obviously. As for Office X, all I can recommend you to do is to try it on a mac installation and see if it works. I don't personally have it, so that's all I can advise.

You have windows installed on this laptop right now still, right? If so, try running CPU-Z to find out a little more about your processor:

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

This program will read your processor basically, and tell you what kind of instruction sets it supports, as well as other hardware information.

Getting to the point, Mac OS X needs a processor with at least SSE2 instructions. If CPU-Z says you have SSE2 or SSE3 or both, you're good to go for installing it.
