P35/ICH9 10.5.4 SATA issue

Hi,

I'm running 10.5.4 and most things work.

 

My motherboard is a Gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l w/ P35/ICH9 chipsets.

I have 2 SATA HD's hooked up to the top ports and both are picked up fine. The bottom set of ports don't work - I have a DVD burner attached to one of them, and it's not picked up.

 

I have AHCI disabled. If I enable it, the system freezes on boot.

 

How do I get all 4 ports working? Any insight will be much appreciated.

 

Also:

I apologize if this is a repeat topic - I searched for a long time and went through many long threads. Most discussed things having to do with 10.5.(2 and 3).
