My suggestion, DONT press the continue button, wait till the menu bar appears and select the Disk Utility from the Tools option. Maybe clicking 'continue' too quickly is causing a problem which relates to the harddisk. Wait for the menu as i've said, format the harddisk THEN press the continue button and see what happens.
