i have a Dell Inspiron 530 tower with these specs:

Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz processor

2GB RAM

Realtek on-board audio (not working)

256MB geForce 8400GS

US Robotics MAXg PCI card

500GB SATA HD

Kalyway 10.5.2 (updated 10.5.3) with vanilla kernel

the only thing i can't get to work is the audio card, i've tried absolutely EVERYTHING to try to get this thing to work, and yet not audio... iTunes doesn't even play audio files at all, it locks up on 0:00 once you press the play button. wifi worked out of the box thankfully, so if ANYONE out there can help me with this on-board audio situation... PLEASE don't hesitate to reply

Check out this thread. I tried everything as well, but someone uploaded their ALC888 driver and it finally worked for me. My post in there should explain a bit more. Hope it works for you.
