Tried
Hi all just out of curiosity, can someone please enlighten me on the difference/advantages between using Mail, as compared to logging in on the web browser to email clients such as gmail? do you lose the email files stored on line? more editing options? better integration with files in the mac? takes up space on hd? thanks for your opinions! Riley Freeman
I always had POP3 accounts until recently. Now I use Yahoo for all my email. For me: Advantages: No need to backup/restore mailboxes after a format (talking from a mostly Windows viewpoint here). No danger of losing emails in a hd crash. No need to mess with spam filter software. Your email is available from anywhere. Disadvantages: No internet access means no email access. Accidents at email provider could lead to a loss of your data. Free email accounts will usually expire if you don't log in within a specified period. Most of the time there's only a tiny portion of emails that are of any "vital" importance (account info, naked pics from that girl on myspace etc). You can always store that locally if you want to keep it extra safe.
Hagar
I see no reason not to use both. mail.app works fine with gmail, so why not.
