Hey everyone,

Recently burned a 10.4.5 Installation DVD and have added an additional 10GB HD to my DELL Dimension 2300. It boots off the DVD just fine. I ran disk utility and formatted my additional HD to Mac OS X Extended (Journaled).

Then, I did the install, deselecting both the additional languages and printer drivers (I'm familiar with doing Tiger installs).

For the sake of time, I skipped the DVD check, and it errored about 15 minutes into the installation, telling me to restart.

The next time, I let it check the DVD and it says there was an error checking the DVD and doesn't want me to continue, but gives me the option to do so. If I do, same as above, I get an error about 15 minutes into the install.

Is the DVD I burned just corrupt, or is this message telling me something else. Perhaps I should try to burn another copy, but it seems that if it boots from it, it should be fine...I don't see how it can be corrupt and still boot from it.

Any ideas? Really wanted to see the speed on this DELL.

Thanks :P

Yeah, you can try re-burning it.. Was it the myzar 10.4.5 DVD you got, or...?

OR - try my VMWare guide... You don't have to use a DVD Disc, just the ISO, therefore no burning involved ;)http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=11314

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I think I'll try burning it again from my G5 with Super drive tomorrow. Right now I'm on my 12" iBook G4 which only has a combo drive.

I think the installation was corrupt because I transfered the ISO from my iBook to my external HD (HFS+), then plugged that into my PC laptop which has a DVD burner. I had to use MacDrive to read the HFS+ on the XP laptop, so that might have been a source of problems.

Although, I still don't see how it's possible for it to have booted from the CD if it didn't burn right and had errors in it. Wouldn't burning errors render it unbootable?

Thanks!

EDIT:

As per the 'How to ask questions' sticky states:

I burned this iso to a Memorex DVD-R using Roxio on a PC laptop running Windows XP.

Another question to add:

The DELL's graphics must not be compatible because everything is black and white and EXTREMELY pixelated (very hard to read, but I can do the installer from memory).

Is there a fix for this particular dell? It's a Dimension 2300 and it has integrated graphics.

Thanks very much!
