Do you have any way of checking whether ApplePS2Controller.kext(located in /System/Library/Extensions) is loaded into the kernel or not(hint: if you can somehow type, type kextstat into Terminal)?

Here's parts of my kexstat output that might be relevant to this. I am experiencing the same problem and right now I'm on a clean install of Jas' 10.4.6.

the solution for me was to boot with an USB wireless mouse attach.. slows down the boot on my laptop as it waits for root device for USB, I got the message still waiting for root device and then continues to load.. but only then it's working full feature without any problems.. I can't find the reason why though...
