I've got two machines (laptop and PC) running Leo4allV3 10.5.2 and I am having issues getting the two to communicate.

My PC never listed any OS X machine (I tried it on a network with several macs once) under Shared in finder and so I cannot browse to other macs/hackintoshes. My laptop sometimes shows my PC under Finder, but if I attempt to connect to it, it will fail and then disappear. My laptop was quite happy to show macs under Finder or listed under Network, just npt my PC... leading me to believe the problem was with the PC.

On my laptop, if I type in the IP of my PC under Go > Connect To Server from the menu bar, I can connect to my PC with my username and password. It is then listed in Finder or under Network. However if I try and transfer a large amount of files it will drop the connection again, and disappears. With my PC, I can connect to my Laptop with the IP and it will again appear and work of a sort. Oh, and iTunes on the laptop will see and use my PC share, but my PC will not see my laptop share.

So where does the problem lie? I've enabled/disabled AppleTalk for ethernet on both machines, made no difference. If I enable SMB/samba file sharing, both can see each other but may still drop the connection.

It's slowly driving me nuts ;-) any ideas?

{censored}, did he?? Well both my machines have now been updated to 10.5.4 using the kalyway 10.5.3 combo update and then apple software update. Still doesn't work though; i'd have thought the bad files might be overwritten (it overwrote the powermanagement bundle so I can't see the battery in my laptop) and the problem fixed.

Do you know where that kext might be? I had considered slowly copying across each kext from my laptop that might be relevant (since I think my laptop is the one working ok)

mschilling, the issue occurs over wired and wireless connections, and with different networking hardware! I'm almost certain it's related to the OS or the files within it. :)

EDIT: Hmm. I disabled file sharing on both machines, then re-enabled it on my desktop - laptop instantly popped up my PC on the sidebar in finder and I was able to connect and transfer files without the connection dropping (stopped after about 100mb of transfers) BUT trying it on the laptop yielded no results: PC still did not detect the laptop..
